GUIDANCE APPROVAL: You must know your counselor's name to register. Discuss your intention to take this course online with your guidance counselor. The counselor does not need to sign anything, we will contact them for approval once you have registered. You should visit the Student Criteria page to take the Self Management and Technical Skills surveys prior to registering for a course. If you are an out of district (Non-PWCS) student, you will need to know the name of your base school, the name of the school division/district, the name and e-mail for your guidance counselor and a base school phone number before you attempt to register.

If a student enrolls in two courses, please note this on the registration form comments section. Courses are accelerated and cover the full course curriculum in one semester. Courses require an average of 7-8 hours per week in fall/spring and 4-6 hours per day in summer. • Two Orientations are required. Students must complete an online "program" orientation course sometime during the five days prior to the session start date. Students also complete a face to face "course" orientation with their instructor on the first day of classes. If a student is out of town on the first day of class, they can complete the "course" orientation on that day by logging into their course. It is recommended that students attend in person. Parents are NOT required to attend. Please view the SESSION CALENDAR for additional meeting dates and times. • Computer/Internet access is required for the duration of the course. Students are expected to login and participate daily. • Students can work ahead in their course, but should never get behind. Students cannot miss a week and "make it up." Students cannot be away during the first week. • Textbooks are not required, however some of the Language Arts courses do require supplemental reading. See the course syllabus for more information. • Mid-term, SOL, and final exams are taken in person with a photo ID and must be proctored by VHS staff or a preapproved substitute proctor. • For courses with an SOL exam, students are required to request a test date with their base school guidance office (in the fall and spring sessions). In the summer session, VHS students take the SOL exam with the students in the traditional summer school program. Students who have previously passed the SOL exam for their online course can receive an exemption by providing proof of passing score. Course credit will not be issued without taking the SOL exam. There are NO exam exemptions in the VHS regardless of grades or SOL exam pass rates. The VHS cannot administer the SOL exam to an out of district student.
